Two established names in London post-production are being brought together under a new Soho operation. Playhouse Studios has acquired the Noel Street facility and assets of Halo Post and is combining them with LipSync to form a new division called Playhouse Post. The move follows Playhouse’s acquisition of LipSync in 2025. According to the announcement reported by Deadline, former LipSync chief executive Mark Foligno will lead the new division. An integrated post-production offer Playhouse Post is expected to provide picture finishing, colour grading, visual effects, online editing, sound post-production and final delivery. Its technical offer will include Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision workflows, allowing sound and picture finishing to take place within the same wider operation. That breadth matters to broadcasters, streamers and film producers managing increasingly complex delivery requirements. An integrated provider can coordinate colour, VFX, audio, online and versioning without every handover moving between separate businesses. The Noel Street site also preserves an established post-production location in Soho. Rather than building an entirely new facility, Playhouse is retaining and reorganising existing infrastructure, equipment and expertise. Continuity after administration The positive part of the announcement is that professional facilities and skills remain active. However, the circumstances also reveal the pressure affecting sections of the UK post-production market. Both Halo and LipSync had previously entered administration before their assets were acquired. High property and staffing costs, fluctuating production volumes, delayed commissioning and intense price competition all create challenges for facilities with substantial fixed overheads. Consolidation can protect useful capacity, but it also shows how difficult it has become for even familiar post-production brands to operate independently. What does this mean for audio post-production? For producers, an end-to-end group can simplify scheduling and accountability. Sound teams can work alongside picture finishing and VFX colleagues with fewer organisational boundaries, while Dolby Atmos delivery can be planned as part of the complete finishing process rather than added at the end. For independent sound editors, designers and mixers, the implications are mixed. A larger company may keep more services in-house, increasing competition for standalone suppliers. At the same time, large facilities regularly require flexible capacity, specialist skills and trusted freelancers when schedules overlap or a project needs expertise beyond the permanent team. That makes collaboration increasingly important. Independent professionals who understand facility workflows, naming conventions, review processes and delivery specifications can become valuable extensions of a larger operation. Part of a wider facilities story The formation of Playhouse Post sits alongside broader changes in UK screen infrastructure.
