Introduction: SSL Redefines Analogue for the Hybrid Age When Solid State Logic introduced the SL 4000E with Total Recall in 1979, it reshaped how engineers approached analogue mixing. But even then, a dream persisted: what if analogue consoles could offer all the benefits of digital—recallability, DAW control, workflow flexibility—without giving up that rich, unmistakable SSL sound? That dream becomes reality with the SSL Oracle, a powerful, fully analogue mixing console infused with next-generation recall and control thanks to ActiveAnalogue™ technology. Oracle offers true SuperAnalogue™ signal quality, instant recall of all parameters, and DAW integration via SSL 360°, marking a new era in hybrid mixing. What Is ActiveAnalogue™? ActiveAnalogue™ is SSL’s most important console innovation in decades. It combines a completely analogue signal path—including EQ, summing, and dynamics—with digital precision for total recall, switchable signal routing, and motorised fader automation. Why It Matters: Get real analogue sound with DAW-style flexibility Instantly switch between tracking, overdubbing, mixing, and mastering templates Maintain creative flow without manual resets or session reconfiguration In essence, ActiveAnalogue™ transforms the traditional console into a smart, dynamic mixing platform. SuperAnalogue™: Purity at the Core SSL’s acclaimed SuperAnalogue™ design philosophy ensures that Oracle delivers pristine, wide-bandwidth audio. Originally developed for SSL’s XL 9000 K console, SuperAnalogue features include: Flat frequency response from 20 Hz to beyond 100 kHz <0.005% total harmonic distortion 120+ dB dynamic range This means Oracle reproduces audio with exceptional transparency, making it ideal for critical recording and mixing applications. Yet, Oracle also offers harmonic saturation options for those seeking colour (see next section). SSL Oracle Console - A New Sonic Signature: Clean or Coloured While Oracle can behave like the cleanest desk ever made, it also allows engineers to introduce subtle analogue character through SSL’s PureDrive™ Mic Pres and flexible saturation options. Each PureDrive™ preamp includes a Drive control—ideal for pushing input gain into subtle or aggressive harmonic distortion, while still retaining the clarity SuperAnalogue™ provides. This lets you dial in a sound that’s clean, classic, or gritty, depending on the artist and genre—without touching a plugin. THE BUS+: Classic Compression, Reinvented Oracle includes SSL’s flagship THE BUS+ compressor directly in its centre section. This is the most advanced version of SSL’s legendary G-Series Bus Compressor, and now offers: 4K Saturation Mode: Emulates the warm, harmonically rich tone of the 4000E series console. Adds glue, edge, and vintage character. Low THD Mode: Optimised for mastering or transparent bus compression. Achieves ultra-low distortion for a clean, polished sound. Feedback Mode: Offers a vintage-style response curve by sampling the signal after gain reduction. Great for smooth, musical compression on vocals or groups. Additional Tools: Integrated Dynamic EQ and Transient Expander modules allow sculpting of attack and clarity, all in the analogue domain. All THE BUS+ settings are fully recallable, thanks to ActiveAnalogue™—a first in SSL’s console lineup. Core Benefits of SSL 360°: DAW Focus Mode: Switch faders from analogue to DAW control bay-by-bay. Session Snapshots: Save and instantly recall console-wide templates. O-Control App: Manage routing, settings, and metering from macOS or Windows. This makes Oracle perfect for the hybrid studio, where engineers want one foot in the DAW and one in the analogue domain—without compromise. Immersive & Modern Monitoring Features Oracle supports immersive mixing environments through: 4 independent stereo monitor paths (one with LFE support) Remote monitoring control for Dolby Atmos renderers 3 Foldback feeds + 4 external stereo inputs (e.g., for Bluetooth receivers) Mid/Side Encoding and Decoding on stereo group paths Whether you're mixing in stereo, binaural, or Dolby Atmos, Oracle provides flexible routing, monitoring, and control that match modern production needs. Oracle Rack System: Power Behind the Panel To maintain a clean, quiet, and compact console surface, the SSL Oracle system offloads its core processing to a modular rack-based infrastructure. Each Oracle system includes one central processing rack for the console’s main functions and one or two channel racks, depending on the number of inline channels specified (24 or 48). These 13U 19” racks can be floor-mounted, under the console, or located remotely in a machine room—ideal for studios prioritising acoustic isolation. Despite their powerful circuitry and active cooling, the racks are engineered to operate below NR25 noise levels, making them virtually silent in critical listening environments. This architecture not only preserves SSL’s signature sonic performance but also enhances system reliability and modular scalability. Who Is Oracle For? 🎧 Hybrid Studios A natural fit for producers and engineers who want analogue tone with digital flexibility. 🎙 Postproduction & Immersive Audio Multiple busses, mid/side processing, and remote Atmos integration make Oracle ideal for high-end film, TV, and gaming workflows. 🎓 Education & Multi-User Environments With session recall templates, detailed metering, and remote racks, Oracle is an excellent centrepiece for institutional or training studios.
